Want to really live in istanbul for a few days? sultanahmet suites is the place for you. these pleasant, efficient modern apartments are only 6 to 8 minutes' walk from sultanahmet square and all of istanbul's major sights, but in a real turkish neighborhood. little kids sit on the curb enjoying ice cream cones, gentle old men sit in the sun and chat outside the mosque, high school students, male and female, bustle along the street to classes ogling one another, greengrocers arrange their produce in artful pyramids, coffeehouse regulars read the newspapers and chat. shady kadirga park, with benches, fountains and a playground for kids, is three minutes' walk away. Right across the street are a few old tree-shaded saints' tombs—quiet neighbors! if you really want to experience istanbul like a native rather than as a tourist, this is your place—even if you can only "live in istanbul" for a few days. the four apartments are in a completely renovated five-storey building with modern systems and security, wireless internet, cable tv, double-glazed windows, central heat and room-by-room air conditioning, modern bathrooms with glass shower stalls and instant-hot-water flash heaters, and complete kitchenettes with four-burner gas cooktops, mini-fridge, electric kettle, toaster and microwave oven, cutlery, utensils, glasses, cups and plates. Comfy! the neighborhood, called kadirga, has a half dozen small restaurants and pastry shops, as many grocery shops and greengrocers', a taxi rank—in short, everything you need to live as a local for a few days in istanbul. there is a bit of street noise, because this is a real neighborhood— vehicles pass, kids laugh and play, school lets out, the muezzin gives the call to prayer—but it's the normal sounds of city life, not intense, and if you want quiet you just shut the double-glazed windows. on the ground floor is the office and a clothes washer and dryer for guests' use (€10 fee for as many loads as you want). The first floor apartment has twin beds, the other apartments have king-sized beds. All have snowy duvets. The sofa in the living-dining room folds out to become a double bed if necessary, and extra cots are available as well. the top (fourth) floor) apartment is a cozy studio with bathroom, kitchenette (with dishwasher), glass south-facing wall, and a roomy terrace with the best views of all. the owners are a nice young couple, ms aylin & mr kivanç onutman, who speak english and know we
