Casa rural “el sequer”, a typical 19th century farm building called a riu-rau, ( formerly used for drying grapes to produce raisins), is today a charmingly restored self-catering country cottage, listed in spain’s rural tourism guidebooks. The building, which was completely in ruins, has been carefully renovated respecting its original architectural features and using traditional materials such as terracotta, stone and bamboo cane for the ceiling. Located on the outskirts of the village of benimeli, el sequer is nestled amongst orange groves, between the rectoria valley and the foothills of the segaria mountain range, where in spring the fragrance of orange blossom and the flowering of almond trees is a delight to the senses. the cottage, with its colourful and rustic interior, and furnished to high standards, can accommodate up to four people. It has two fully furnished bedrooms, (one double, one twin) and a bathroom with whirlpool bath overlooking the garden. the spacious yet cozy living-dining room has a fireplace, tv, cd/music player and a comfortable seating area. The original well separates this area from an open-plan, fully equipped kitchen with fridge, oven, cooker, extractor, dishwasher, microwave, washing machine and other small electrical appliances. This space, with magnificent views of the valley, is the perfect place for reading or get-togethers, especially on winter nights. the porch, under the shade of fruit trees, is a natural lookout point over the rectoria valley and surrounding mountain ranges. the secluded garden has an original barbecue area and an enormous shady fig tree. The swimming pool, set in the midst of the orange grove, completes this unique setting where tranquillity and relaxation are assured. el sequer’s strategic location, only 15 kms from denia and its magnificent beaches; 6 kms from the n-332 and ap-7 motorway exit which provides access to valencia, alicante and the rest of spain, is also an ideal starting point for visiting other inland regions. comments: in 2003, el sequer was awarded the prestigious “q” quality tourism certificate by the icte. Valencia and alicante airports are both 90kms away. Within a 8-30 km radius there are: 3 championship golf courses (oliva nova, la sella , javea), 3 natural parks (montgó, marjal de pego & the peñón de ifach), as well as a safari park (6km). Excellent sandy beaches for swimming, windsurfing, sailing (10 km); horseriding, tennis, cycling and nearby mountain trails for walking, hiking or climbing.
