Area Information

Andros has a population of 8 180 and is the largest and least-explored island in the bahamas. It is actually a series of islands and cays connected by a series of canals/passages called bights. Mostly flat, its 5 957 square kilometres are full of lakes and creeks, and most of the local residents live along the shore. The main villages are nicholl's town, andros town, and congo town. Come and discover the beauty of nature - explore endless beaches, freshwater mud flats, pine forests filled with wild iguanas and several species of migratory birds, inland lakes and lagoons, blue holes and the third largest barrier reef in the world. Meet the friendly and interesting people of andros who produce colourful batik, imaginative wood carvings and some of the most beautiful baskets and in all of the bahamas.
