Area Information |
||||||||
|
The area around souillac is known as perigord noir. Above riverside villages, on the dordogne, rise superb chateaux such as those at biron, beynac, castlenaud and montfort. Other exquisite villages such as salignac-eyvigues, are guarded by powerful ancient fortresses. Lesser rivers are overlooked by equally delightful architecture. Medieval belves, with its seven belfries, perches on a hill above the valley of the nauze. Little saint-cybarnet, with its gabled houses, is washed by the ceou, as is the even tinier bouzic. The area also embraces some of the finest bastides of the department, domme, monpazier and villefranche-du-perigord, and also includes remarkable prehistoric sites. |
